Acrylic painting of the salmon run in Northern BC rivers
From my Tributary series, where I aim to convey a potent visual impact of salmon spawning, reflecting their importance in our lives – in natural and cultural spheres. Playing with the push/pull of positive and negative shapes, the rhythm of water and fish, the paint layers drip and crackle around the outlines of many salmon, giving a sense of movement and yet fossilization. Entitled after Terry Glavin’s book of the same name about the history of the North Pacific, “The Last Great Sea” is a commentary on the significance of the salmon run, and the tragic deterioration of salmon habitat. From my Tributary series, where I aim to convey a potent visual impact of salmon spawning, reflecting their importance in our lives – in natural and cultural spheres.
